IFB Washing Machine Error Codes: Complete List and How to Fix Them

IFB Washing Machine Error Codes Explained

IFB uses E-codes (electronic/sensor errors) and C-codes (component errors). This guide covers all common IFB error codes and how to fix them at home before calling a technician.

IFB Error Code Reference Table

Code Meaning DIY Fix?
E1 Water inlet fault — machine not filling Yes
E2 Drainage fault — pump blocked or motor problem Yes
E3 Motor overloading or overheating Sometimes
E4 Water overflow Sometimes
C1 Door not closed / door lock fault Yes
C2 Water pressure switch fault No
C3 Motor fault / tachogenerator No
C4 Heating element fault No
C5 NTC temperature sensor fault No
C6 TRIAC / PCB component fault No
DOOR Door open or not latched Yes

How to Fix IFB Error Codes

E1 — Water Not Filling

  1. Check the water tap behind the machine is fully open.
  2. Inspect the inlet hose for kinks.
  3. Disconnect the inlet hose and clean the mesh filter at the connector under running water.
  4. Reconnect and restart. If E1 persists, the inlet solenoid valve is faulty — call IFB service.

E2 — Drainage Fault (Most Common IFB Error)

  1. Open the small panel at the bottom front of the machine.
  2. Place a tray and towel to catch water, then slowly unscrew the drain pump filter cap.
  3. Remove all lint, hair, coins, and debris from the filter and filter housing.
  4. Check the pump impeller (visible inside) — remove any stuck objects.
  5. Screw the filter cap back in firmly. Run a Spin-only cycle to test.

IFB tip: Clean the drain pump filter every 3 months to prevent E2 errors.

E3 — Motor Overload

  1. Reduce the load size — IFB front-loaders have strict max capacity limits.
  2. Let the machine rest for 30 minutes to cool the motor.
  3. Restart with a smaller load. If E3 appears on an empty drum, motor brushes may need replacement.

C1 / DOOR — Door Error

  1. Open and firmly close the door — listen for the click of the door latch engaging.
  2. Check the rubber door seal — it can fold inward and prevent proper closure.
  3. If DOOR shows with door closed, the door interlock (lock switch) needs replacement.

C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 — Call IFB Service

These involve internal components. Unplug for 10 minutes and retry. If the code reappears, call IFB service at 1860 425 5678.

Frequently Asked Questions

E2 keeps coming back after I clean the filter — why?

A coin or small item may be jamming the drain pump impeller itself, not just the filter. The pump may need to be removed for deeper access. Call IFB service if cleaning the visible filter doesn’t resolve E2.

My IFB shows C3 and the drum won’t spin — is it the motor?

C3 is a motor or tachogenerator fault. On older IFB models, the motor brushes wear out after heavy use and are inexpensive to replace. A technician can confirm which component is at fault.
