This guide covers every common Samsung refrigerator error code — what it means, why it appears, and the fix to try first before calling a technician.

Most Common Codes Explained in Detail

OF OF — Demo Mode (Most Common Complaint)

This is the single most-reported “error” on Samsung refrigerators — but it is not actually a fault. OF OF means the fridge is in Shop/Demo mode: lights and display work, but the compressor does not run. This is set at the factory for showroom display.

Fix: Press and hold the Fridge button and Energy Saver button simultaneously for 3 seconds. The display should change and cooling will resume within 30 minutes.

88 88 — Power Recovery

88 88 appears after a power cut or voltage spike. It is the control board running a self-check. In most cases, unplugging the fridge for 60 seconds and plugging it back in clears the code permanently. If it reappears, check your home’s voltage supply with a stabiliser.

5E — Freezer Sensor Error

The 5E code indicates the freezer temperature sensor is reading out of range — usually because of heavy ice build-up around the sensor. Run a manual defrost (unplug the fridge, leave the door open for 24 hours), then reset power. If the code returns, the sensor (around ₹300–₹600) needs replacement.

25E — Defrost Sensor Error

25E means the defrost circuit sensor has failed or the defrost heater is not completing its cycle. Press and hold Fridge + Energy Saver for 8 seconds to enter forced defrost mode. If the code persists after defrost, a technician should inspect the heater and sensor.

PC ER — Panel Communication Error

PC ER points to a lost connection between the main control board and the display panel — often caused by a loose ribbon cable. Unplug for 5 minutes. If the code persists, check the harness connector at the top of the door (French Door models) or at the back panel.

When to Call a Samsung Technician

  • The error code returns within 24 hours of a power reset
  • The fridge is not cooling despite the code being cleared
  • You see 84C (compressor communication) — this usually needs a service engineer
  • The display is blank or flickering alongside error codes

Samsung’s toll-free number in India: 1800-5-726-7864. Always note the full error code before calling.
