Using a Samsung washing machine for the first time is straightforward, but a few initial steps make a big difference in cleaning performance and machine longevity. This guide covers first-time setup, wash programme selection, and daily usage tips.
First-Time Setup Checklist
- Remove the transit bolts from the back of the machine (3–4 bolts with plastic spacers) before running any cycle
- Connect the water inlet hose to a cold water tap and ensure the connection is tight
- Place the drain hose in the standpipe or sink — keep the hose end at least 60 cm above floor level
- Level the machine using the adjustable feet — use a spirit level on top of the machine
- Run one Drum Clean cycle without laundry to clean the drum before first use
How to Run Drum Clean on Samsung
Press the power button, then turn the programme dial or press the cycle button until Drum Clean is selected. Add a drum cleaning tablet or 100 ml of liquid bleach to the drum (not the drawer). Press Start. The cycle takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Run Drum Clean once a month to prevent odour and mould build-up.
Selecting the Right Wash Programme
| Programme | Best For | Temperature | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton | Everyday cotton shirts, bedsheets, towels | 40°C | 90–120 min |
| Quick Wash | Lightly soiled clothes, urgent wash | 30°C | 15–30 min |
| Synthetics | Polyester, nylon, synthetic blends | 40°C | 60–70 min |
| Delicates | Silk, lace, delicate fabrics | 30°C | 45–60 min |
| Woollens | Wool, cashmere, knits | 30°C | 45 min |
| Hot Wash (60°C) | Baby clothes, heavily soiled items | 60°C | 120 min |
| Drum Clean | Cleaning the drum | Hot | 90 min |
Loading Tips
- Do not exceed the rated capacity — overloading reduces cleaning quality and strains the motor
- For front-loaders: fill to about 80% of the drum volume; clothes should tumble freely
- For top-loaders: do not pack clothes tightly — leave space above the load
- Use only HE (High Efficiency) detergent in front-load models — regular detergent creates excess suds
- Add detergent to the drawer: compartment II for the main wash, I for pre-wash if selected
Maintenance Tips
- Clean the detergent drawer monthly — pull it out fully and rinse under tap water
- Wipe the door seal (gasket) after every wash on front-loaders to prevent mould
- Leave the door ajar after use to allow the drum to air-dry
- Clean the drain filter every 2–3 months — on front-loaders it’s behind the small panel at the bottom front
