How to Install Apps on an XGIMI Projector

How to Install Apps on an XGIMI Projector

XGIMI projectors run Android TV, which means you can install apps the same way you would on an Android TV set-top box or smart TV. There are two main methods: installing directly from the Google Play Store, and sideloading APKs for apps not available on the Play Store. This guide covers both approaches and addresses the most common app-installation questions, including getting Netflix and Indian streaming apps working.

Method 1: Installing Apps via Google Play Store

Most XGIMI models (Horizon, Horizon Pro, Halo+, and newer Elfin models) have access to the Google Play Store through their Android TV system.

  1. From the Android TV home screen, navigate to the Apps row or open the Play Store icon.
  2. Use the search bar to find the app you want.
  3. Select Install and wait for the download to complete.
  4. The app will appear in your Apps section and can be added to your home screen.

Apps available directly on the Android TV Play Store include:

  • Amazon Prime Video
  • YouTube
  • Disney+ Hotstar
  • JioCinema
  • MX Player
  • VLC

Which XGIMI Models Support Google Play

All current XGIMI models sold in India that run Android TV support Google Play Store, including:

  • XGIMI Horizon and Horizon Pro
  • XGIMI Halo+
  • XGIMI Elfin
  • XGIMI MoGo 2 and MoGo 2 Pro

Older XGIMI models running the older XGIMI OS (non-Android TV) may not have the Play Store. Check your model’s specifications before purchase.

Method 2: Sideloading APKs on XGIMI

Some apps — most notably Netflix — are not available on the Android TV Play Store by default. Sideloading lets you install APK files directly.

Step 1: Enable Unknown Sources

  1. Go to Settings on your XGIMI projector.
  2. Navigate to Device Preferences > Security & Restrictions.
  3. Enable Unknown Sources for the browser or file manager app you plan to use.

Step 2: Download the APK

You have two options:

  • Via Browser: Install the Downloader app from the Play Store, then use it to enter a direct APK download URL.
  • Via USB: Download the APK to a USB drive on your PC, plug the USB into the XGIMI projector, and use a file manager app to locate and install the APK.

Step 3: Install the APK

Once downloaded, tap the APK file in your file manager or Downloader app and select Install. Grant any permissions requested and the app will install.

Getting Netflix on an XGIMI Projector

Netflix is not listed on the Android TV version of the Play Store because Android TV requires Netflix certification for display on its store. To get Netflix on your XGIMI:

  1. First, check the XGIMI App Store (accessible from the XGIMI home screen) — some XGIMI models include a certified Netflix app there.
  2. If not available, install the Downloader app from the Play Store.
  3. Use Downloader to fetch the Netflix APK from a reliable source (apkmirror.com for the Android TV version of Netflix).
  4. Install and sign in with your Netflix account.

Make sure to download the Android TV version of the Netflix APK, not the standard Android phone version — the phone version will not display properly on a projector.

Getting Indian Streaming Apps

  • Prime Video: Available directly on Play Store — install and sign in with your Amazon account.
  • Disney+ Hotstar: Available on Play Store — works natively on Android TV.
  • JioCinema: Available on Play Store — supports 4K content on supported plans.

Tips for Easier App Management

  • Use a USB mouse or keyboard: Plug a USB mouse into the XGIMI’s USB port for much easier navigation when typing URLs or managing apps.
  • Keep system software updated: Go to Settings > Device Preferences > About > System Update. Updates can add new app support and fix compatibility issues.
  • Use the XGIMI remote app: Available on Android and iOS — it acts as a remote with a keyboard for fast text input.

Common App Installation Issues

  • App not installing — storage full: Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Storage and clear unused app caches, or uninstall apps you no longer use.
  • Incompatible APK version: Ensure you are downloading the Android TV-compatible APK, not the standard Android phone version. Phone APKs may install but will show a tiny, unusable interface on a projector screen.
  • App crashes on launch: Try clearing the app’s cache, or uninstall and reinstall using a fresh APK download.
