E4 — High Pressure Protection

Carrier E4 triggers when the compressor discharge pressure exceeds the safe limit. This most often happens when the outdoor condenser coil is clogged with dust, reducing its ability to reject heat. Turn off the AC, clean the outdoor unit’s fins, check that nothing is blocking airflow around the unit, then restart. If E4 returns, a technician should check system pressure and refrigerant charge.

E6 — Communication Error

E6 indicates the indoor unit has lost communication with the outdoor unit. This is commonly triggered by a power fluctuation. A 3-minute power reset at the circuit breaker usually resolves it. If E6 is persistent, inspect the inter-unit control cable for damage or loose terminals.

F0 — Low Pressure / Refrigerant Leak

F0 is a serious code. It means the system refrigerant pressure is too low, almost always due to a refrigerant leak. You may also notice the AC running continuously without cooling the room. Do not operate the AC. A qualified technician must find and repair the leak, then recharge the system with R32 or R22 refrigerant as applicable to your model.

F1 — Anti-Freezing Protection
