Bosch refrigerators use a series of fault codes to communicate problems with sensors, fans, and the cooling system. This guide covers every common Bosch refrigerator error code, explains what is happening inside your appliance, and gives you the at-home fix to try before calling a technician.
Bosch Refrigerator Error Code Table
| Code | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| E1 | Fridge temperature sensor fault | Unplug 5 min; replace sensor if recurring |
| E2 | Freezer temperature sensor fault | Defrost; replace freezer sensor |
| E3 | Defrost heater / sensor fault | Manual defrost; call Bosch service |
| E4 | Evaporator fan motor fault | Defrost; replace fan motor |
| E5 | Condenser fan motor fault | Clean condenser; check fan |
| E7 | Communication error | Unplug 10 min; call Bosch service |
| d1 / d2 | Door alarm (door left open) | Close door firmly; check door seal |
| F0 | Control board fault | Power reset; call Bosch service |
| H1 | High fridge temperature alarm | Check door seal; reduce load |
| H2 | High freezer temperature alarm | Check door seal; check compressor |
Most Common Bosch Error Codes Explained
E1 / E2 — Temperature Sensor Faults
Bosch uses E1 for the fridge sensor and E2 for the freezer sensor. These sensors tell the control board when to start and stop the compressor. A fault here means the fridge cannot maintain the correct temperature. You may notice food spoiling faster or items in the fridge compartment freezing.
Fix: A 5-minute power reset clears transient faults. If the code persists, the sensor costs ₹400–₹800 and a Bosch-authorised technician can replace it quickly.
E3 — Defrost Heater or Sensor Fault
E3 is a defrost system fault. Without a functioning defrost cycle, the evaporator ices over within days, causing both compartments to lose cooling. Manual defrost (unplug, doors open, 24 hours) is the first step. After that, the heater or sensor needs professional inspection.
E4 — Evaporator Fan Fault
The evaporator fan distributes cold air. When it fails — usually due to ice jamming the blades — only the immediate area around the evaporator stays cold. Defrost manually and reset. If the fan still does not run, the motor needs replacement (₹900–₹1,800).
d1 / d2 — Door Open Alarm
Bosch triggers a door alarm after the door has been open for approximately 60 seconds. Check that nothing is blocking the door from closing fully, inspect the rubber door gasket for splits or gaps, and press firmly to ensure the magnetic seal engages.
H1 / H2 — High Temperature Alarms
H1 (fridge) and H2 (freezer) appear after a power outage or when the cooling system cannot maintain safe temperatures. After power is restored, allow 4–6 hours for temperatures to stabilise. If the alarm persists beyond 6 hours, the cooling system needs inspection.
When to Call Bosch Service
- E7 (communication) or F0 (control board) — always needs authorised service
- Error code returns after power reset and defrost
- H1 or H2 alarm persists more than 6 hours after power restoration
