IFB Washing Machine Stuck on One Cycle: Causes and Fixes

IFB Washing Machine Stuck on One Cycle

If your IFB washing machine is stuck mid-cycle — showing the same programme stage for a long time, looping back to the same point repeatedly, or simply not progressing — there is usually a fault that the machine cannot resolve automatically. The most common causes are a drainage failure, a faulty sensor, or a software glitch that a reset can clear.

Quick Answer

Try a hard reset first. If the machine is stuck in the drain phase, clean the pump filter. If it loops repeatedly, a pressure sensor or control board fault may need a technician.

Causes and Step-by-Step Fixes

1. Drainage Blockage (Most Common)

IFB machines most commonly get stuck at the rinse-to-drain or wash-to-drain transition. If water cannot drain, the machine waits indefinitely (or shows a drain error like FLE or E01).

  1. Open the pump filter panel (bottom-right of the machine).
  2. Place towels to catch water, then slowly unscrew the filter cap.
  3. Remove lint, hair, coins and any debris from the filter mesh.
  4. Spin the impeller (small plastic wheel behind the filter) — it should turn freely.
  5. Replace the filter, tighten it and run a Drain + Spin cycle.

For detailed steps, see our guide on how to clean the IFB drum and drain filter.

2. Hard Reset

A software glitch can cause any electronic washing machine to loop or freeze on a cycle step. A hard reset clears the machine’s memory and restarts it cleanly.

  1. Press the Power/Start button to turn the machine off.
  2. Switch off at the wall socket and unplug.
  3. Wait 5 full minutes.
  4. Plug back in and switch on at the wall.
  5. Select a short programme (Quick Wash or Rinse) and start it — if it completes normally, the glitch is resolved.

3. Pressure Sensor (Water Level Sensor) Fault

The pressure sensor tells the machine how much water is in the drum. If the sensor gives a wrong reading, the machine may keep filling when it should drain, or drain when it should spin — causing it to loop on one cycle step.

  • Signs: Machine fills and drains repeatedly without progressing, or stops at the same point every time.
  • The thin plastic tube connecting the pressure sensor to the drum can become blocked with detergent residue. Disconnect and blow gently through it to clear it.
  • If still faulty, the sensor needs replacement — call IFB service (1860-425-5678).

4. Control Board or Programme Fault

If the machine gets stuck at different cycle points, not always the same one, the control board may be sending inconsistent signals. This is more likely after a power surge.

  • Try the hard reset above.
  • Check IFB error codes on the display. See our IFB error code guide for what the codes mean.
  • If the same error persists after a reset, the control board likely needs replacement — a technician job.

5. Overloading

An overloaded drum creates unbalance during spin, causing the machine to repeatedly attempt the spin phase and fail, appearing stuck. Reduce the load by removing 1–2 items and restart.

Prevention

  • Clean the drain filter every month.
  • Use the correct load size for your capacity — our washing machine capacity guide shows the right load for each drum size.
  • Use only IFB-approved HE detergent in the correct dosage — excess suds can confuse the pressure sensor.

When to Call a Technician

Contact IFB service if the hard reset does not resolve the issue, if the same error code reappears repeatedly, or if the machine shows no response at all after the reset. IFB’s toll-free number is 1860-425-5678.
