How to Connect Xiaomi Projector to Phone (Android & iPhone)

Why Connect Your Phone to a Xiaomi Projector?

Sometimes the easiest way to get content on the big screen is straight from your pocket. Whether you want to stream a YouTube video, show photos from your gallery, or mirror a presentation from your phone, a Xiaomi projector makes it simple — if you know the right method for your device. This guide covers Android screen mirroring, iPhone/iPad screen cast, wired HDMI connection, and how to use the Mi Home app for control.

What You Need

  • A Xiaomi Mi or Redmi projector powered on and connected to WiFi
  • An Android phone (Android 5.0 or later) or iPhone (iOS 12 or later)
  • Both devices on the same WiFi network for wireless methods
  • A USB-C to HDMI adapter or Lightning to HDMI adapter for wired connection (optional)

Method 1: Screen Mirroring on Android (Miracast / Cast)

Step 1: Enable Wireless Display on the Projector

On your Xiaomi projector, go to the home screen and look for a Screen Mirror or Wireless Display app. Open it. The projector will display a waiting screen showing its device name. Keep this screen open.

Step 2: Cast from Your Android Phone

On your Android phone, swipe down to open Quick Settings. Look for Cast, Smart View, Screen Mirror, or Wireless Display (the label varies by manufacturer). Tap it, and your phone will scan for nearby Miracast-compatible devices. Select your Xiaomi projector from the list. Your phone screen should appear on the projection within a few seconds.

Step 3: Troubleshooting Wireless Mirroring

If the projector does not appear in the list, make sure both devices are on the same WiFi network. Restart the Screen Mirror app on the projector and retry. If you still see lag or disconnects, try switching your router to 5 GHz — it offers better bandwidth for screen mirroring.

Method 2: Connect iPhone or iPad via AirPlay / Screen Mirror App

iPhones do not support Miracast natively. However, many Xiaomi projectors running a recent firmware version include an AirPlay-compatible receiver, or you can use a third-party screen mirror app installed on the projector.

Option A: AirPlay (if supported)

  1. On the projector, open the AirPlay or AirScreen app from the app store.
  2. On your iPhone, open Control Centre by swiping down from the top-right corner.
  3. Tap Screen Mirroring and select your Xiaomi projector from the list.
  4. Your iPhone screen will now mirror to the projector.

Option B: Use a Lightning to HDMI Adapter (Wired)

This is the most reliable method for iPhone. Plug a Lightning to Digital AV Adapter into your iPhone, connect an HDMI cable from the adapter to the projector, and switch the projector input to HDMI. Your iPhone screen will mirror instantly with no lag.

Method 3: Wired Connection via USB-C to HDMI (Android)

For Android phones that support DisplayPort over USB-C, a wired connection delivers the best quality with zero lag. Connect a USB-C to HDMI adapter to your phone, plug the HDMI cable into the projector, and switch the input source to HDMI on the projector’s remote. Your screen will mirror automatically. This method also charges your phone on some adapters if they include a pass-through USB-C port.

Method 4: Mi Home App for Smart Control

The Mi Home app (available on Android and iOS) does not directly mirror your screen, but it lets you control the projector remotely, change settings, and cast content from supported apps directly to the projector without needing to mirror the entire phone screen. Install Mi Home, ensure your phone and projector are on the same WiFi network, and add the projector as a device. You can then control playback and launch apps on the projector from your phone.

Common Problems and Fixes

Problem Fix
Phone not appearing in cast list Ensure both devices are on the same WiFi network; restart projector’s Screen Mirror app
Screen mirroring lags or stutters Switch to 5 GHz WiFi; close background apps on your phone; use wired HDMI instead
iPhone not seeing projector for AirPlay Ensure AirScreen or compatible app is running on projector; update projector firmware
No audio through projector Check projector volume; if using HDMI, confirm audio output on phone is not routed elsewhere

Tips for Best Results

  • For movies and video, the wired HDMI connection always gives the smoothest, highest-quality result.
  • For presentations or casual browsing, wireless Miracast is convenient enough.
  • Set your phone to Do Not Disturb before mirroring so notifications don’t appear on the projection.
