How to Connect BenQ Projector to Laptop (HDMI, VGA & Wireless)

Connecting a BenQ projector to your laptop is straightforward once you know which cable or wireless method to use. Whether you are presenting in a boardroom, setting up a home cinema, or gaming on a big screen, BenQ projectors support multiple connection options. This guide covers HDMI, VGA, and wireless methods so you can get your image up fast.

What You Need

  • BenQ projector (any current model)
  • HDMI cable (recommended) or VGA cable with 3.5 mm audio cable
  • USB-C to HDMI adapter if your laptop has no full-size HDMI port
  • For wireless: both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, or a streaming dongle such as Chromecast or Fire Stick
  • Power supply and a suitable surface or mount for the projector

Method 1: Connect via HDMI (Best Quality)

  1. Power off both the laptop and the projector before plugging in.
  2. Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the laptop’s HDMI port and the other end into the projector’s HDMI input.
  3. Turn on the projector first, then power on the laptop.
  4. On the BenQ remote, press Source or Input and select HDMI.
  5. On Windows: press Win + P and choose Duplicate (mirror) or Extend. On macOS: go to System Settings > Displays and arrange screens as needed.
  6. Adjust focus and keystone on the projector until the image is sharp and square.

Method 2: Connect via VGA

  1. Connect the VGA cable between the laptop’s VGA/mini-DisplayPort (with adapter) and the projector’s VGA port.
  2. For audio, plug a 3.5 mm audio cable from the laptop headphone jack to the projector’s audio-in port.
  3. Select VGA as the input source on the BenQ remote.
  4. Use Win + P or macOS Display settings to choose your display mode.

Note: VGA carries no audio signal, so the separate audio cable is essential for sound.

Method 3: Connect Wirelessly

  1. Plug a Chromecast, Fire Stick, or similar streaming dongle into the projector’s HDMI port and power it via USB.
  2. Connect the streaming device and your laptop to the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. On Chrome browser (for Chromecast): click the three-dot menu and select Cast, then choose your device and pick Cast tab or Cast desktop.
  4. For Miracast-capable laptops (Windows 10/11): go to Settings > System > Display > Connect to a wireless display and select the projector if it supports Miracast natively.
  5. Select the correct HDMI input on the BenQ projector.
