Voltas AC Error Codes: Full List and Fixes

Voltas AC Error Codes: What Each Code Means and How to Fix It

Voltas is India’s best-selling AC brand, and its inverter and non-inverter split ACs use alphanumeric error codes to flag faults. This guide covers every common Voltas AC error code, what each one means, and the fix you should try at home before calling a Voltas technician.

Voltas AC Error Code Table

Code Meaning Fix
E1 High pressure protection Clean outdoor condenser coil; check for blocked airflow
E2 Anti-freezing protection Clean air filter; let unit run in fan mode to thaw ice
E3 Low-pressure protection Check for refrigerant leak; call technician for gas top-up
E4 Discharge temperature protection Turn off AC; check compressor area for blockage
E5 Overload / overcurrent protection Check power supply voltage; may indicate compressor issue
E6 Communication error (indoor–outdoor) Power cycle both units; inspect signal cable
F1 Indoor temperature sensor fault Check sensor connector; replace sensor if faulty
F2 Indoor coil temperature sensor fault Inspect connector on PCB; replace sensor
F3 Outdoor temperature sensor fault Inspect outdoor unit sensor; replace if needed
H5 Outdoor module fault Power cycle; technician inspection required
P1 Voltage protection Use a voltage stabiliser; check supply voltage

Top Voltas AC Error Codes Explained in Detail

E1 — High Pressure Protection

Voltas E1 is triggered when the refrigerant pressure on the discharge side is too high. In most Indian homes this happens because the outdoor unit’s condenser coil is coated with dust, pollen, or cottonwood fibres, preventing heat from escaping. Switch off the AC, clean the outdoor fins with a soft brush or gentle water spray, ensure 50+ cm of clear space around the unit, and restart. If E1 persists, the refrigerant may be overcharged.

E2 — Anti-Freezing Protection

When the indoor evaporator coil temperature drops below freezing — usually due to a dirty filter blocking airflow — Voltas shuts the compressor off and shows E2. The fix: switch to fan-only mode for 30–60 minutes to thaw the coil, then clean the air filter thoroughly. If E2 returns after cleaning, low refrigerant is the likely cause.

E6 — Communication Error

E6 means the indoor and outdoor units have lost communication. After a power cut, this is often a temporary glitch cleared by a full power reset. If it persists, a loose inter-unit signal wire or a damaged PCB is the cause.

E3 — Low Pressure Protection

E3 usually indicates refrigerant is leaking. You may notice poor cooling and ice forming on the copper pipes. Turn the AC off immediately and call a Voltas service technician to locate and fix the leak before topping up refrigerant.

How to Reset a Voltas AC After an Error

  1. Turn off the AC with the remote.
  2. Switch off the MCB/breaker for the AC circuit.
  3. Wait 60–90 seconds.
  4. Restore power and start the unit.
  5. If the error returns, call Voltas customer care: 1800-209-4555.

When to Call a Technician

  • E3 low-pressure error — refrigerant leak needs professional repair.
  • E5 overload error that returns repeatedly — possible compressor failure.
  • Any sensor fault (F1, F2, F3) that persists after resetting.
  • H5 outdoor module fault — board-level repair needed.
