Voltas refrigerators — made in partnership with Beko — display fault codes on their digital panels when a component needs attention. This guide covers every common Voltas refrigerator error code, what it means, and the at-home fix to try first.
Voltas Refrigerator Error Code Table
| Code | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| E1 | Fridge temperature sensor fault | Reset power; replace sensor if recurring |
| E2 | Freezer temperature sensor fault | Manual defrost; replace freezer sensor |
| E3 | Defrost heater error | Manual defrost; replace defrost heater |
| E4 | Evaporator fan fault | Defrost; replace fan motor |
| E5 | Condenser fan fault | Clean condenser; check fan |
| E6 | Communication error | Unplug 10 min; call Voltas service |
| E7 | Ambient sensor fault | Reset; replace ambient sensor |
| F1 | High temperature alarm (fridge) | Check door seal; reduce food load |
| dA | Door open alarm | Close door; check gasket |
| HC | High compressor temperature | Check ventilation gap; clean condenser |
Most Common Voltas Error Codes Explained
E1 — Fridge Temperature Sensor Fault
E1 means the fridge compartment sensor is sending an invalid reading. The board cannot regulate cooling, leading to temperature swings. A 5-minute power reset clears transient faults. If the code returns, the sensor (₹300–₹700) needs replacement by a Voltas technician.
E3 — Defrost Heater Error
E3 is one of the most impactful codes — without a working defrost heater, the evaporator coils ice over and the fridge stops cooling within a few days. Manual defrost (unplug, doors open, 24 hours) is always the first step. After defrost, if the code reappears, the heater element needs replacement.
E4 — Evaporator Fan Fault
The evaporator fan pushes cold air from the freezer section into the fridge compartment. When it fails (usually due to ice blockage), the fridge warms up while the freezer stays cold. Defrost the unit completely, then reset. If the fan does not spin freely after defrost, replace the motor.
HC — High Compressor Temperature
HC appears when the compressor overheats — often because the fridge is pushed against a wall with no ventilation gap, or the condenser coils are coated in dust. Pull the fridge 10 cm away from the wall, clean the condenser coils at the back, and allow 2 hours for the compressor to cool before restarting.
dA — Door Open Alarm
After the fridge door has been open for 60+ seconds, dA flashes. This is normal. If it appears when the door is closed, the door gasket has failed and needs replacement to prevent warm air ingress and energy waste.
When to Call Voltas Service
- E6 (communication error) that does not clear with reset
- HC alarm continues after cleaning and ventilation adjustment
- Fridge not cooling after manual defrost and reset
