IFB washing machines are among the most popular front-load machines in India, known for their build quality and wash programmes. Whether you have a new IFB or are switching from a top-load, this guide covers the full operating process.
First-Time Setup Checklist
- Remove the 3 transit bolts from the back of the machine and keep the plastic spacers safely
- Connect the Aqua Energie device (the white inline filter supplied with IFB machines) to the water inlet hose — this conditions hard water and improves detergent performance
- Set the drain hose end at least 65 cm above floor level in the standpipe
- Level all four feet — the machine must not rock on the floor
- Run a Tub Clean cycle before your first wash load
What Is IFB Aqua Energie?
Aqua Energie is a flow-through water softener supplied with most IFB washing machines. It breaks down bicarbonates in hard water using a spiral turbulence mechanism — no chemicals, no electricity. Install it between the tap and the water inlet hose. This is particularly important in cities with hard water (Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad) as it improves detergent lathering and wash quality.
IFB Wash Programmes: Which to Use When
| Programme | Best For | Temperature | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton | Everyday cotton, towels, bedsheets | 40–60°C | 90–150 min |
| Express Wash | Lightly soiled clothes, urgent items | 30°C | 15–30 min |
| Synthetics | Polyester, synthetic blends | 40°C | 60–75 min |
| Delicates | Silk, chiffon, light fabrics | Cold | 45 min |
| Woollens | Wool, cashmere | 30°C | 40 min |
| Daily Quick | Small, lightly soiled loads | Cold/30°C | 30 min |
| Tub Clean | Monthly drum cleaning | Hot | 70 min |
How to Set Spin Speed and Temperature
After selecting the programme, use the Spin and Temp buttons to adjust settings within the allowed range for that programme. The machine will not allow you to select a temperature or spin speed that could damage the fabric type — it locks out invalid combinations automatically.
- 400–600 RPM — Woollens, delicates, silk
- 800–1000 RPM — Synthetics, daily wear
- 1200–1400 RPM — Cottons, towels, bedsheets
Loading and Detergent Tips
- Use only front-load detergent (low-foam / HE detergent) — regular powder creates excessive suds and can trigger error codes
- Add detergent to compartment II (main wash) of the dispenser drawer; add pre-wash detergent to compartment I if using the pre-wash option
- Do not overfill — for a 6 kg machine, fill the drum to about 80% capacity; clothes should be able to tumble
Maintenance Tips
- Clean the pump filter (bottom front panel) every 2 months
- Wipe the door gasket dry after every wash
- Leave the door open after each cycle to air the drum
- Run Tub Clean once a month
