A projector showing “No Signal” almost always means it isn’t receiving a working video feed from your device — not that the projector is broken. The fix is usually the input source, the cable, or a resolution mismatch. Work through these checks in order and you’ll get a picture back.
Common Causes of “No Signal”
- The wrong input source is selected
- A loose or faulty HDMI cable
- The source device is off, asleep, or set to the wrong display output
- A resolution the projector can’t accept
- HDCP / copy-protection handshake failure
Step-by-Step Fixes
- Select the correct input: press the Source or Input button and choose the HDMI port your device is plugged into (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.).
- Reseat the cable: unplug the HDMI cable at both ends and push it back in firmly. A half-seated cable is the number-one cause.
- Swap the cable: test with a different HDMI cable — cables fail far more often than people expect.
- Wake the source: make sure your laptop, set-top box, or stick is on and not in standby.
- Set the laptop display: press Windows + P (Windows) and pick Duplicate or Extend; on Mac, check Displays settings.
- Lower the resolution: set the source to 1080p or 720p so the projector can accept it.
- Power-cycle everything: turn off both devices, unplug the projector for 30 seconds, then restart.
Still No Signal?
Try a completely different device — for example, plug in a phone via a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter. If that works, the original source or its output port is the problem. If nothing produces a signal on any input, the projector’s HDMI board may have failed and needs service.
Prevention
- Use a good-quality, certified HDMI cable rather than the cheapest one.
- Leave the projector on the correct input so it auto-detects next time.
- Avoid sharp bends in the cable, which damage the internal wires.
