How to Jailbreak a Dangbei Projector (Install Any App)

Dangbei projectors run Google-certified Android TV, but the regional app store still leaves out plenty of apps people actually want. “Jailbreaking” a Dangbei projector means unlocking it to sideload any APK — so you can add streaming apps, browsers, and tools that don’t appear in the store. It is completely reversible and doesn’t require root.

What You Will Need

  • Your Dangbei projector connected to WiFi
  • A USB flash drive or a file-manager app
  • The APK files you want to install (from a trusted source such as APKMirror)
  • An air mouse or USB keyboard (recommended)

Step 1: Enable Unknown Sources

  1. Open Settings from the Dangbei home screen.
  2. Go to System (or Device Preferences) > Security & Restrictions.
  3. Turn on Install unknown apps for the file manager or browser you will use.

Step 2: Install a File Manager

From the Dangbei store or Google Play, install X-plore or the built-in Dangbei File Manager. This lets you open APKs copied from a USB drive.

Step 3: Sideload Your Apps

  1. Copy APK files onto a USB drive from your computer.
  2. Plug the drive into the projector’s USB port.
  3. Open the file manager, navigate to the USB drive, and select an APK.
  4. Choose Install and confirm. Repeat for each app.

Adding Streaming Apps

Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and most regional apps install and run cleanly. Netflix may need the Android TV APK, and because some Dangbei models are Widevine L1 certified, HD playback often works out of the box. If Netflix shows a black screen, fall back to an external streaming stick.

Troubleshooting

  • “App not installed”: use the Android TV version of the APK, not the phone one.
  • App opens but you can’t navigate: connect an air mouse to tap on-screen.
  • USB not detected: reformat the drive to FAT32 and try again.
