How to Set Up an Anker Nebula Projector

Anker Nebula Projector Models Overview

The Anker Nebula lineup covers a range of portable and home projectors. The Nebula Capsule is a pocket-sized projector ideal for travel. The Nebula Solar sits in the mid-range and offers a solid balance of brightness and portability. The Nebula Cosmos is the premium model, with auto-focus, motorised keystone correction, and full Android TV 11.

All Nebula projectors run Android TV (version 9 or 11 depending on the model), which means you get the Google Play Store and access to most major streaming apps out of the box.

Step 1: Placement and Surface Options

Nebula projectors are portable, so placement is flexible. For the best picture:

  • Place on a stable table, shelf, or tripod at the correct throw distance (check the manual for your model — typically 1 to 4 metres for a 60–120 inch image).
  • Use a white wall or a dedicated projection screen for the sharpest results.
  • The Nebula Cosmos supports ceiling mount via a standard tripod thread on the base.
  • Use indoors in a dim or dark room — Nebula projectors are not designed for bright ambient light.

Step 2: Power On

Connect the power adapter and press the power button. The Nebula logo appears, followed by the Android TV boot screen. First boot takes around 60 to 90 seconds. On battery-powered models like the Nebula Capsule, ensure the battery is charged before the first use — a low battery will reduce brightness automatically.

Step 3: Auto-Focus and Keystone Correction

The Nebula Cosmos series includes automatic focus and motorised keystone correction. On first boot, the projector runs an auto-calibration. If the image still looks trapezoidal or blurry:

  • Go to Settings > Projection > Auto Focus to re-run focus.
  • Use Settings > Projection > Keystone Correction to manually adjust if auto correction is off.
  • On Nebula Solar and Capsule models, focus is manual — rotate the focus ring on the lens until the image is sharp.

Step 4: Connecting to WiFi on Android TV

During setup, Android TV will prompt you to connect to a network. If you skipped it:

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet.
  2. Select your WiFi network from the list.
  3. Enter the password using the on-screen keyboard (the Nebula remote has a microphone — press the mic button and say your password if it is simple alphanumeric).
  4. For faster setup, use the Android TV Remote Control app on your phone, which lets you type easily.

If you face connection drops or cannot find your network, see our guide on how to fix projector WiFi problems.

Step 5: Google Account Sign-In

Sign in with your Google account to access the Play Store, YouTube, and other Google services. Use the phone-based sign-in option (scan the QR code shown on screen) to avoid typing your password on the remote.

Step 6: Installing Streaming Apps

Once signed in, most apps are available directly:

  • YouTube — pre-installed on Android TV.
  • Amazon Prime Video — available on the Play Store.
  • Disney+ Hotstar, ZEE5, SonyLIV — available on the Play Store.
  • Netflix — Netflix is not available on the standard Play Store on most Nebula projectors because they are not Netflix-certified. Install it via the Nebula Manager app (pre-installed) which provides a certified Netflix build, or sideload the Netflix APK from a trusted source.

Step 7: Bluetooth Audio Output

All Nebula projectors have built-in speakers, but you can connect an external Bluetooth speaker or soundbar for better audio. Go to Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Add Accessory, put your speaker in pairing mode, and select it from the list. Audio lag may occur with some Bluetooth devices. To learn more, see how to connect a Bluetooth speaker to your projector.

Step 8: Picture Settings

Fine-tune the image under Settings > Projection > Picture Mode. Recommended modes:

  • Cinema — accurate colours, lower brightness; ideal for movies in a dark room.
  • Standard — balanced for general use.
  • Reduce Brightness in a fully dark room to reduce eye strain.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Nebula

  • Battery life: The Nebula Capsule 3 offers around 2.5 hours of playback. Plug in via USB-C for longer sessions.
  • Sound: The built-in speakers are adequate for a small room; an external Bluetooth speaker significantly improves the experience.
  • Keep firmware updated: Go to Settings > About > System Update to check for the latest Nebula firmware.
