A5 — Freeze Protection / Indoor Coil Icing
When the indoor evaporator coil gets too cold — usually because of a dirty air filter, low refrigerant, or a blocked airflow — the AC triggers A5 to prevent ice damage. The immediate fix: turn off cooling mode, set the fan to run alone for 30 minutes to melt the ice, then clean the air filter. If A5 comes back after cleaning the filter, the refrigerant level likely needs checking.
E3 — High Pressure Protection
Daikin E3 fires when the discharge pressure on the compressor side is too high. The most common cause in Indian conditions is a condenser coil clogged with dust or a blocked outdoor unit with restricted airflow. Ensure the outdoor unit has at least 50 cm of clearance on all sides and clean the fins thoroughly. A refrigerant overcharge can also cause E3.
U4 — Communication Error
U4 is Daikin’s communication fault between the indoor and outdoor units. After a power cut or voltage surge, U4 is often a temporary glitch — a full power cycle (both units off at the breaker for 3 minutes) usually clears it. If it returns immediately, inspect the inter-unit control wiring for loose terminals or damage.
F3 — Discharge Temperature Too High
F3 is a protective code — the compressor discharge pipe is getting too hot, which can damage the compressor. It can be caused by low refrigerant, a blocked condenser, or the compressor running in extremely high ambient temperatures. Turn the AC off and let it cool before restarting. If F3 recurs, a technician needs to check the refrigerant charge and system pressures.
