How to Connect LG Washing Machine to WiFi (ThinQ App)

LG’s WiFi-enabled washing machines work with the LG ThinQ app, giving you remote control, cycle monitoring, Smart Diagnosis, and downloadable wash programmes. This guide walks you through the full setup process.

Requirements Before You Start

  • An LG washing machine with WiFi capability (look for the ThinQ or WiFi logo on the machine)
  • A 2.4 GHz home WiFi network (LG washing machines do not support 5 GHz)
  • LG ThinQ app installed on your smartphone (Android or iOS)
  • A free LG account
  • Your WiFi network name and password

Step-by-Step: Connect LG Washing Machine to ThinQ

  1. Open the LG ThinQ app. Sign in or create an LG account.
  2. Tap the + button at the top right to add a device.
  3. Select Washing Machine from the appliance list.
  4. On your washing machine, press and hold the WiFi button (or the combination specified in your manual, often Temp + Option) for 3 seconds until the WiFi LED blinks.
  5. The ThinQ app will detect the machine. Follow the in-app prompts to select your home WiFi network and enter the password.
  6. Wait for the connection to establish — the WiFi LED will stay solid once connected.
  7. Name your device and tap Done.

What You Can Control Remotely via ThinQ

  • Start, pause, or end a wash cycle from anywhere
  • Get push notifications when the wash cycle finishes
  • Download special wash cycles (Allergiene, Steam Fresh, etc.) on compatible models
  • Run Smart Diagnosis — hold your phone near the machine and the app reads error codes and explains fixes
  • Monitor energy and water consumption per cycle
  • Set a delayed start for off-peak hours

Common ThinQ Connection Problems and Fixes

Problem Cause Fix
App can’t find the machine Machine not in pairing mode Hold WiFi button again until LED blinks rapidly
Connection keeps dropping Weak WiFi signal Place router closer or use a WiFi extender near laundry area
5 GHz network error Unsupported frequency Log into router admin and connect to 2.4 GHz band
OE error after connection Drainage issue unrelated to WiFi Check our LG error codes guide

How to Reset WiFi on LG Washing Machine

Press and hold the WiFi button for 5 seconds until the WiFi LED turns off. This clears the saved network. You can then repeat the pairing steps to connect to a new network.
