How to Set Up an XGIMI Projector for the First Time
XGIMI projectors — including the popular Horizon Pro, Horizon, and Halo+ — are among the most capable home projectors you can buy in India. They run Android TV, feature Harman Kardon audio, and include XGIMI’s intelligent auto-focus and keystone correction. This step-by-step guide walks you through getting everything set up correctly from the moment you open the box.
Step 1: Unboxing and Placement
Before powering on, position the projector correctly. XGIMI projectors are short-to-medium throw devices. Use the throw distance reference below to estimate how far back to place the unit:
| Model | Screen Size | Throw Distance |
|---|---|---|
| XGIMI Horizon / Horizon Pro | 100 inches | ~3.2 metres |
| XGIMI Horizon / Horizon Pro | 120 inches | ~3.8 metres |
| XGIMI Halo+ | 100 inches | ~2.7 metres |
Place the projector on a stable surface or mount it to the ceiling. Ensure there is no direct ambient light hitting the projection surface — pull curtains or dim the room for the best picture.
Step 2: Power On and ISA (Intelligent Screen Adaption)
Plug in the power cable and press the power button. XGIMI’s standout feature is ISA — Intelligent Screen Adaption. Once powered on, the projector automatically:
- Detects the screen or wall surface
- Adjusts focus automatically
- Corrects keystone distortion (both horizontal and vertical)
- Avoids obstacles on the screen area
Allow ISA to complete before doing anything else. It typically takes 15–30 seconds. If the automatic correction is not quite right, you can fine-tune manually in Settings > Projection > Keystone Correction.
Step 3: WiFi Setup on Android TV
XGIMI projectors run the full Android TV operating system. During first boot, you will be prompted to connect to WiFi. Select your network and enter the password using the remote. For best streaming performance, always connect to a 5GHz WiFi network — it provides higher bandwidth and lower interference compared to 2.4GHz.
Step 4: Google Account Sign-In
After WiFi connection, sign in with your Google account. This activates the Google Play Store, syncs your preferences, and enables Google Assistant on the remote. You can use the XGIMI remote app on your phone to type in credentials more easily than using the on-screen keyboard.
Step 5: Setting Up Streaming Apps
Most apps install directly from the Google Play Store available on Android TV:
- Prime Video — available directly on Play Store
- YouTube — pre-installed on most XGIMI models
- Disney+ Hotstar — available on Play Store
- JioCinema — available on Play Store
Netflix note: Netflix is not available on the standard Android TV Play Store. On XGIMI projectors, check the XGIMI app store (XGIMI’s own curated store) first — some models include it there. If not, use the Downloader app to sideload the Netflix APK from the official Netflix APK source. This is a common workaround for Android TV-based projectors and is safe when downloaded from official sources only.
Step 6: Harman Audio Settings
XGIMI projectors feature built-in Harman Kardon speakers. Go to Settings > Sound to adjust:
- Sound mode: Movie, Music, or Sports depending on content
- Bass / Treble: Fine-tune to your room acoustics
- Bluetooth audio: Pair a soundbar or speaker for a bigger sound experience
Step 7: Picture Settings
In Settings > Picture, choose a display mode:
- Vivid: High contrast, punchy colours — good for sports and casual viewing in a lit room
- Standard: Balanced everyday mode
- Cinema: Calibrated for dark room viewing — most accurate colours for movies
Tips and Common First-Time Issues
- Use 5GHz WiFi — 2.4GHz can cause buffering with 4K content
- Use HDMI for gaming — connect a console via HDMI for the lowest input lag
- Keystone not auto-correcting fully: Go to Settings > Projection > Keystone and adjust manually using the directional buttons
- WiFi 5GHz not showing: Some older routers broadcast 5GHz on a different SSID — check your router settings
