Resetting an Onida washing machine is the quickest way to clear a temporary glitch, cancel a cycle you started by mistake, or make a stubborn error code disappear. It is always worth trying before you call for service. This guide shows you how to reset an Onida washing machine step by step.
Method 1: Power Reset
A power reset clears the machine’s memory and fixes most one-off faults:
- Press the power button to switch the machine off.
- Unplug it from the wall, or switch off the socket.
- Wait a full 1 to 2 minutes so the control board fully discharges.
- Plug back in and switch on.
- Reselect your programme and press Start.
Method 2: Cancel a Running Cycle
To stop or change the current wash on a fully automatic Onida:
- Press Start/Pause to pause the cycle.
- To cancel, press and hold the Power button until the machine switches off, then turn it back on.
- If water remains in the drum, run a Drain or Spin Only programme before opening the lid.
On a semi-automatic Onida, simply turn the wash and spin timer dials back to zero and switch off at the mains to reset.
Method 3: Clear an Error Code
When a code shows on the display, fix the underlying cause first — check the door, tap and drain filter — then perform the power reset above. The code should not return once the real problem is solved. Our list of Onida washing machine error codes and fixes explains what each code means before you reset.
If the Reset Does Not Work
- Make sure the lid or door is fully closed — the machine will not start otherwise.
- Test the power socket with another appliance to rule out a supply problem.
- If the same fault returns straight after every reset, it is likely mechanical or electronic and needs a technician, particularly under warranty.
For day-to-day operation tips, see our guide on how to use an Onida washing machine. Regular cleaning also prevents many faults — here is how to clean the drum and filter.
If repeated resets and repairs are not keeping an older machine going, it may be time to replace it.
