Toshiba Washing Machine Error Codes: Full List and Fixes

When a Toshiba washing machine stops mid-cycle and flashes a code on the display, it is telling you exactly what has gone wrong. Most Toshiba error codes point to simple problems you can fix yourself in a few minutes — a kinked hose, a slightly open door or an unbalanced load. This guide lists the common Toshiba washing machine error codes, explains what each one means, and gives you the at-home fix to try first.

Toshiba Washing Machine Error Code List

Exact codes vary slightly between front-load and top-load models, but the letters and numbers below cover the codes most often seen on Toshiba machines. Use the table to find yours, then read the detailed fixes underneath.

Code Meaning Fix to Try
E1 Water not filling / supply problem Check the tap is fully open and the inlet hose is not kinked; clean the inlet filter.
E2 Door or lid not closed properly Open and firmly re-close the door; check nothing is trapped in the seal.
E3 / E32 Drainage fault — water not draining Clean the drain filter and check the drain hose for kinks or blockages.
E5 Water temperature sensor issue Power off for a few minutes, then restart; if it returns, call a technician.
E6 Drum or motor fault Reduce the load and restart; persistent E6 needs a service visit.
E7 / E74 Unbalanced load / spin fault Redistribute clothes evenly around the drum and restart the spin.
E9 Overflow / too much water detected Reduce detergent, check for a stuck water valve; power-cycle the machine.
EUD / Ub Unbalanced load detected during spin Open the door and spread the laundry out; avoid washing single heavy items alone.
EC1 Water leak sensor triggered Check under the machine for leaks; turn off and inspect hose connections.

The Most Common Toshiba Codes Explained

E1 — No Water Filling

E1 is the code people see most often. It simply means the machine started a cycle but did not detect enough incoming water. Nine times out of ten the tap is only half open, the inlet hose is bent behind the machine, or the small mesh filter where the hose screws on has clogged with grit. Turn off the tap, unscrew the hose, rinse the filter and refit it.

E3 — Will Not Drain

An E3 (sometimes shown as E32) means water cannot leave the drum. The usual culprit is a blocked pump filter clogged with coins, lint or hair clips. Cleaning the filter regularly also keeps odours away — see our guide on how to clean the washing machine drum and filter.

E7 and EUD — Unbalanced Load

These appear when the drum cannot balance the laundry for a high-speed spin. Washing one towel or a single pair of jeans on their own is a frequent cause. Open the door, spread the load evenly and restart.

When to Reset and When to Call a Technician

Many of these codes clear after a simple power reset. If a code keeps returning after you have tried the fix above, follow our step-by-step guide on how to reset a Toshiba washing machine. Codes pointing to the motor, control board or sensors (E5, E6) usually need a qualified technician, especially if the machine is still under warranty.

If your Toshiba is more than a few years old and faults keep recurring, it may be more economical to replace it.
