The answer is that there are only two ovaries in a human female body, and it’s enough. What are ovaries? Ovaries can be defined as the reproductive organs a female has. The ovaries are located on either side of the uterus. So, what is the function of these two ovaries?
The two ovaries in your body or any other female body are responsible for protecting the eggs you are born with and also for releasing them from time to time during the procedure of what is known as fertilization. There are enough eggs in the ovary that will be sufficient to cover up the entire fertile life of a female.
Amazing facts about ovaries, I bet you didn’t know:
- A girl is born with more than millions of eggs in her body. Isn’t this mind-blowing? Some of these eggs in the ovary die years before adolescence, and then she is left with about 340 thousand eggs which are enough to serve the period she is going to have till old age.
- If both ovaries release about two eggs, then the possibility of the birth of fraternal twins will become so much more. It surely does happen but also happens more if there is someone taking fertility drugs.
Do both ovaries in your body release eggs every month?
The answer is no. Why? During the first seven days of a normal menstrual cycle, both the ovaries start releasing the egg. But after that, one follicle becomes dominant, and that’s the only one that will make it through the process. The ovaries inside you release eggs alternatively though this is not done regularly perfectly every month.
Also, if a female has only one ovary, a woman can still get pregnant and give birth normally.
Conclusion.
In summary, there are only two ovaries in a female body, but both are enough to serve the fertility period of the entire woman’s life. I hope this article will be helpful to you.
